A tourniquet is a device in the form of a cushion, which was placed by the ladies from behind under the dress below the waist to give a magnificent figure. Also, the tourniquet could be in the form of a gathered lining, located just below the waist on the back panel of the upper part of the skirt, which formed a characteristic silhouette with a very convex lower part of the body. The tourniquet replaced the crinoline around 1870 and went out of fashion in 1889. For two decades, the styles of dresses with flounces have changed many times.
