Fashion 1870's
A tourniquet is a device in the form of a cushion, which was placed by the ladies from behind under the dress below the waist to give a magnificent figure. Also, the tourniquet could be in the form of a gathered lining, located just below the waist on the back panel of the upper part of the skirt, which formed a characteristic silhouette with a very convex lower part of the body.
The tourniquet replaced the crinoline around 1870 and went out of fashion in 1889. For two decades, the styles of dresses with flounces have changed many times. In general, at that time, women's fashion changed almost every year. It is hard to imagine how poor ladies managed to follow it. I think they just couldn't do it, and only aristocrats and the wives and daughters of the Nouveau riche could look like fashionistas.
Hairstyles were in harmony with the outfits, were just as feminine and lush. To create them, of course, chignons were used (for example, false braids). In fashion, there were curls of various types (tubular, ribbon, shavings) and elegant curled bangs. Ballroom hairstyles were decorated with silk flowers, strings of pearls, and feathers.
It was also customary to decorate hats with flowers, feathers, and also with ribbons, lace, and small veils with flies. In the 1870s, hats were usually tied under the chin with ribbons.
From jewelry, in addition to jewelry, velvets were very popular – velvet ribbons on the neck, usually black. They could have been with a gold medallion or a cameo.
